Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle

This amazing castle was the dream and creation of the eccentric King of Bavaria, Ludwig II. It is the most visited castle in Germany. The Castle’s location is stunning perched on a ridge with majestic mountains as its backdrop. It is the fairytale castle that was used as the model for Disney’s icon castle.

The castle was built in Gothic revival style. Ludwig II was enamoured with the works of the composer Richard Wagner and was inspired by his operas, Tristan and Isolde, Sigurd the Swan Knight Lohengrin, Parsifal and Tannhauser. The paintings and murals throughout the castle are modeled on these ancient stories. The most impressive room is the Minstrels’ Hall with scenes from the Opera Tannhauser.
