What to see
The column was built in celebration of the end of the Swedish invasion in 1638. At each of the corners of the column there is a cherub that symbolizes the triumph over war, pestilence, hunger and heresy.
The most famous attraction of the square is the Glockenspiel or carillon. This beautiful musical and animated clock has 43 bells and 32 figures. It chimes and entertains at 11am 12 noon and 5pm each day. For the best views of this daily show make your way to the Hugendubel bookstore or the Cafe Glockenspeil.
