What to see in Budapest
The city is awash with artistic museums, installations, galleries and halls. Being home to a huge and well-developed classical music scene, Budapest is also home to a number of opera and music halls where visitors can enjoy a show or two. Museums include everything from the history of Hungary from ancient to modern day as well as Jewish history, having been a large centre for those of Jewish origin pre-World War II. The city is also home to the impressive Parliamentary building, as well as castles and churches in great numbers. If you’re interested in anything related to royalty, be sure to catch a look at the Hungarian Crown Jewels.
The city is home to numerous beautiful bridges that span the rivers connecting the various neighbourhoods. These bridges are built with artistic flair and are often inherently beautiful, with some featuring historic moments of the city’s history. Regardless of whether you’re coming with children or not, a trip to one of the thermal baths is a must, with many being ornately decorated and featuring healthy, mineral rich waters which make a great day out for swimming and general relaxing. Some of the baths accept families, so keep an eye out for those specific ones if travelling with children, and many of them offer spa upgrades for additional fees. Overall, this is a great way to unwind at the end of a long day of sightseeing around the city – or to spend a whole day just relaxing poolside.
