What to see at the The Arles
The main square in town is Place de la Republique. The pretty square has a fountain from the 19th century and a Roman obelisk from the times of Emperor Constantine II. From the square you can visit the church of Sainte-Anne-d’ Arles which was originally there since the middle ages but was rebuilt in the 1700’s. On the other side of the square you will find the cathedral of Saint-Trophime d’Arles which in the Romanesque style built in the 1200’s.
Arles is where Van Gogh lived and painted many of his most famous works. You may recognize some parts of the town from his paintings in fact you can take a walking tour of the places that Van Gogh painted. From the visitors center you can get a map which shows 10 different paintings including Starry night. You can also visit the Foundation Vincent Van Gogh which is a gallery dedicated to the artist.
