Avignon has much history and is an important city to visit. The town center is a UNESCO world heritage site. The city is quite medieval with its narrow streets and fortified walls. Its most famous medieval site is the Pont d’Avignon . The city has many squares. Place Du Palais is a beautiful large square facing the Palace of the Popes. Avignon was the seat of the Papacy during the 1300’s. Another important square is the Place de L’Horloge where you can view the clock tower from 1471.
