Salzburg Rathaus

Salzburg Rathaus

The old city hall, called the Rathaus, is a medieval building but has a Rococo façade. The building looks like many other medieval houses except that it has a bell tower. The house was a Burgher house of the 14th century. In 1407 the city council bought the house and used it as a court for the community government and the court of justice. The clock tower which is most likely the oldest in all of Austria, was used as a look-out at night. In the ballroom with a height of 71 meters and width of 20 meters, many celebrations and festivals take place.
